The Vagina Monologues FAQ

Hopefully this helps. :)

1.Can I still sign up to be part of The Vagina Monologues? YES.

There are four levels of involvement for the UCSD production:

a) Directors – Oversee and coordinate the putting together of the show, in charge of being in contact with VDAY, running Sunday meetings, helping the Pussy Posse, and meeting weekly one-on-one with cast members to rehearse their monologues. The official contact people for the UCSD production. These are: Manvi, Erin, and Naomi, who can be contacted at ucsdvday@gmail.com. –No more spots open, please try for next year (interviews this spring)--

b) Pussy Posse – a team of women who work backstage to put together the production in all its elements, including fundraising, marketing, merchandise, stage decoration, beneficiary, etc. These are permanent “Vagina Season” long positions with requirements to be present at Sunday meetings and show and rehearsal dates as well as complete what they need to for their positions on their own time and attend social and fundraising events. –No more spots open, please try for next year (interviews next fall) -

c) Cast – act, and participate in social and fundraising events. Required to be present at Sunday meetings and show and rehearsal dates as well as rehearse on their own time and meet once a week with a director to practice their monologue in the last 5 weeks before the show. –audition times open up until November 6th! Sign up at the Women's Center, on the desk across from the front desk.--

d) Clit Crew – Clit Crew is a group for those Vagina Warriors who cannot make the time commitment or were otherwise not selected for directing, Pussy Posse or cast, but also want to be involved with The Vagina Monologues! The Clit Crew is a group of volunteers who help out with special projects, on show dates, table, and attend social events and fundraisers at their discretion, on their own time. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join the Clit Crew to get updates on what they can participate in to help out!  Please email ucsdvday@gmail.com to request to be put on this list.  Positions always open!!

2. What if I can’t make any of those times on the sign-up sheet?
Sorry, these are the only audition times we have. If you can’t make it, please try again next fall. If you feel you have a special circumstance, please email ucsdvday@gmail.com and we will consider your situation.

3.What is The Vagina Monologues?

V-Day at UCSD is part of a larger international campaign that puts on the production of The Vagina Monologues, a play with largely set monologues and a few optional ones, written by Eve Ensler, every February. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. Any group of people can choose to put it on, internationally. All of the proceeds go to social justice groups, specifically local groups that focus on women's rights. 90% goes to a local organization chosen by the group of people putting the show on, and 10% of ALL of the productions' fees from around the world go to an international cause chosen by VDay every year.

The Vagina Monologues at UCSD is a network of folks who grow close and support one another while discussing feminism, learning about the VDay movement and local feminist organizations, and putting on the show and raising as much money as possible!

4. Can male-identified folks be part of The Vagina Monologues?

Yes! They can be part of the Pussy Posse or Clit Crew; however, only female-identified people are allowed on stage.
